Mitigation of Risks
Downhole, high pressured waterjet cutting eliminates the need for hot work permits and confined spaces that are dangerous and sometimes fatal.
57% Faster than Conventional Cutting
A conventional approach would have required at least 70 hours on site from start to finish. The NuWave method took only 40 hours, with 24 of those hours being driving time.
Continued Operations
Live wells and pipelines surrounding the site can continue as normal when waterjet cutting is the methodology used
Estimated Value Savings

The Cut
With multiple casings involved, fluctuations in the thickness of casing and cement sometimes exist between casing strings (faster cuts with cement in between casings). Each cut varied in time required, ranging anywhere from 40 minutes to 8 hours.
NuWave completed a total of 3 cuts within 40 hours from start to finish, including 24 hours of drive time.

The Issue
The traditional method and approach to surface well abandonments has a tendency to damage vegetation and cost incredible amounts of money, time and resources. The old way of decommissioning oil wells includes extreme and necessary safeguards such as retaining walls in the holes that expose the casing for the welders to then enter into a confined area. This requires hot work permits and dig permits prior to the welder entering the ditch.
Casing strings may have extreme stored energy in them which pulls downward. When the casing is cut with a torch, this puts the welders in harm's way from a major pinch point and/or a major explosion or fire.
Our client in East Texas required a fast and efficient way to cut and cap their decommissioned assets.
The Solution
NuWave Industries was able to mobilize without site assessment. We do not require excavation or any major site preparation, all we needed to know was the casing sizes so that we’d be able to show up with the right size of caps and centralizers. What would have taken at least 7 days with equipment, planning, and additional crew members, was able to be completed in just under 4 days with reduced personnel and no need for heavy equipment or permits.
